Statement on ExCo Mandate Extension Vote – ISSC members vote to extend the current Executive Committee’s mandatepublished: June 14, 2016
The electronic vote on the extension of the ISSC Executive Committee (ExCo) mandate came to an official close on June 3rd at 23:59 CEST.
All ISSC Member Associations, Organisations, and Institutions having paid their 2015 fee were allowed to vote (Associate Members are not voting members), and one vote per member was permitted. The voting process was entirely overseen by the Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences (SSEESS), who are an Associate Member (non-voting).
Based on SSEESS’ assessment of the results, the ISSC welcomes our member’s active involvement in the vote, through which it was decided by an overwhelming majority to extend the current ExCo’s mandate for a period that will not exceed two years (until October 2018), to lead and implement a merger with the International Council for Science (ICSU).
The deliberation and vote on pursuing the creation of a new science organization, or not, will fully occur during the joint ISSC and ICSU General Assembly, on 24 October this year.
