Call for nominations: IRDR Scientific Committeepublished: December 12, 2016
The term of office of three members of the Scientific Committee of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme is coming to an end, and new nominations for membership are being sought.
Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is a decade-long research programme co-sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). It is a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.
ISSC Members are invited to nominate individuals to the IRDR Scientific Committee who would bring appropriate experience and expertise to IRDR. We are particularly seeking nominations from active social scientists working on hazards and disaster risk management. In order to support IRDR’s work at the science-policy-practice interface, we are also asking members to put forward nominations of practitioners from civil society (NGO, business, etc.) to complement the existing academic expertise on the committee.
Members of the Scientific Committee are expected to participate actively in the strategic and scientific development of the programme, take the lead on specific activities, and help promote the programme to the broader scientific and stakeholder community. The term of office is three years renewable once.
All nominations must be submitted on the template above and sent to Vivi Stavrou, at email@example.com by 08 January 2017.
The selection of nominees will be made jointly by the ISSC Executive Committee, the Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR) of the International Council for Science, and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR).
