Five new members for Transformations to Sustainability Steering Committee

The membership of the Steering Committee of the Transformations to Sustainability (T2S) programme has been renewed for the next two years of the programme.

With several members of the original Committee stepping down at the end of 2016, five new members have been appointed by the ISSC Executive Committee for the period 2017 to 2018: John Gaventa, Jackie Olang, Úrsula Oswald Spring, Boshra Salem and Richard Tutwiler. Together with the continuing members of the Committee, they constitute a diverse panel of knowledge-holders on social transformation and sustainability.

The Steering Committee provides scientific guidance on T2S programme management and advises on strategy development. It is also responsible for funding decisions in the programme. The Committee comprises 12 members, including social scientists, natural scientists and representatives of partners and civil society organisations. Former members of the Committee include Frans Berkhout, Heide Hackmann, Katherine Jacobs, Enrique Leff, Shahra Razavi and Carolina Vera, who all contributed generously to building a strong foundation for the programme through the selection of seed grant projects and transformative knowledge networks.

Launched in 2014, the T2S programme supports social-science-led research to help advance transformations to more sustainable and equitable societies around the globe. The T2S programme is coordinated by the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). It represents the ISSC’s contribution to Future Earth.
