Programme released for Ethnografilm 2017

The Ethnografilm Festival returns to Paris this April for its fourth annual edition at Ciné 13, Montmartre.

Ethnografilm celebrates non-fiction filmmaking and video ethnography, with films that challenge audiences – and film-makers. Ethnografilm is a Director’s film festival, bringing together academic and documentary film-makers from around the world to watch and discuss films in the atmospheric surroundings of Ciné 13.

A prelimary programme for the 2017 Festival is now available. Films will run from 11am on 12 April until midnight on 15 April.

Ethnografilm will open on the evening of 11 April with a special performance of Buswell & Nyberg’s Paris Music Challenge. In only nine days, speaking no French, they aim to form a ten-piece band made entirely from musicians they bump into on the streets of Paris, and then to write an original set of music to be performed by this group of musicians who’ve never played together before – at the reception of Ethnografilm!

After last year’s festival, the 3rd Ethnografilm Africa was held in June (Nairobi, Kenya), followed by the 3rd Ethnografilm Asia in July (Trivandrum, Kerala) and Ethnografilm Europe (Barcelona).  2017 festival selections will be shown at a travelling festival in India, Kenya, Louisiana, and Boston.

Ethnografilm is co-sponsored by the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S).
