Ethnografilm Paris 2018 – submit now to join the festival for non-fiction filmpublished: September 22, 2017
Submissions are invited for Ethnografilm 2018, which will take place 3 – 7 April 2018 in Paris, France. Ethnografilm is a directors’ film festival for non-fiction film, held each April at the Ciné 13 Théâtre, in the heart of Montmartre.
All non-fiction films are eligible for the 2018 festival. “Ethnographic” films are not simply about far away people and places – the organizers particularly solicit movies about modern life, as well as remote corners of the planet. The festival is invitation-only, with an audience made up of non-fiction filmmakers. At the 2017 festival 90% of the directors were there to discuss films, meet colleagues, enjoy French food and wine, and initiate new collaborations. Last year one director said “I nominate this for the best festival in the world. The place and the atmosphere are so fantastic.” The Ciné 13 theatre is the perfect place to watch the films, argue the finer points, ask and answer questions from other directors.
All documentary forms are invited, including short films, student films, and academic films. Following the main festival in Paris, France, a selection of films will travel to smaller Ethnografilm festivals in India, Kenya, Ghana, Sydney, and New Orleans later in 2018.
Admission is free, and directors can come and go as they please. The festival typically shows 100 films, from over three dozen countries. Filmmakers who have screened at Cannes and Sundance have told us Ethnografilm was more fun. Ethnografilm is “profoundly entertaining”.
