Qunli HAN appointed IRDR Executive Directorpublished: September 26, 2017
On 25 Sep 2017 the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme announced Mr Qunli Han as its new Executive Director. Qunli was previously the Secretary of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, and the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences of UNESCO (June 2013-August 2017).
IRDR is an international, multidisciplinary research initiative established to address the major challenges posed by natural and other hazards to the sustainable development agenda of communities worldwide. The complexity of the task requires efforts to bring together and integrate research, expertise, data and knowledge crossing the natural, socio-economic, health and engineering sciences. Qunli and his team in the International Project Office (IPO) of IRDR are fully committed to work with all involved in IRDR to take forward this important international initiative.
The Integrated Research on Disaster Risk Programme (IRDR) is an integrated research programme, initiated in 2008 by the ISSC, International Council for Science (ICSU), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). We welcome Qunli Han to this important role, and join the IPO in extending our thanks to former Executive Director Dr Rajib Shaw.
