Extraordinary Joint ISSC-ICSU General Assembly, Oslo, Norway

An extraordinary joint general assembly of the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and International Council for Science will take place on Monday 24th October in Oslo, Norway. Leading social and natural scientists from all over the world will take part in the meeting.

The one-day joint meeting takes place in the context of discussions on achieving closer institutional alignment between ICSU and ISSC. Members of both organizations will vote on an in-principle agreement to merge the two councils, and to establish a Transition Task Force to develop detailed transition plans. It follows the recommendation of a joint working group on the relationship between the two Councils, whose final report recommended a merger, and this was subsequently unanimously endorsed by the executives of both organizations.

The meeting will be opened by Christen Krogh, Director of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Research Council of Norway and Ole M. Sejersted, President of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. It is hosted by the Research Council of Norway, a member of the ISSC.

Following discussions on the motivation behind a merger of the two organizations, and the implications for future strategy, members will vote separately, with an announcement of the results expected between 18:00 and 18:30 CEST. You can follow the joint deliberations between 08:30 and 15:00 CEST, and the final announcement online. Follow the link to the live-stream of the meeting here:
