Integrated Research on Disaster Risk

The Integrated Research on Disaster Risk Programme (IRDR) is a decade-long integrated research programme, initiated in 2008 by the ISSC, International Council for Science (ICSU), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

It is a global, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy mechanisms.IRDR has a mission to generate new information and data, creating coordinated and integrated global data and information sets across hazards and disciplines.

The programme operates to characterize hazards, vulnerabilities and risk; understand decision-making in complex and changing risk conditions; and to reduce risk and curb losses through knowledge-based actions.
